IF a child is absent as a result of being ill or if they are well-documented absences for other reasons, then no special action is required.
However, if a child has been absent for four (4) or more consecutive unexcused absences, the program must initiate action. The procedures include a home-visit or other direct contact with the parents by the childs teacher. All contacts with the childs family must be documented on the home-visit and in the childs contact log sheet signed by the parent or an appropriate family member.
In circumstances where chronic absenteeism continues, should the decision by both the teacher and the parent that the concerned child will be dropped from the program, the childs slot is considered an enrollment vacancy.
