Immunization
All children enrolled in the program should have updated immunization status according to the public school health law requirements. If a child’s immunization status is not updated they are referred to the nearest dispensary for immunizations and follow up. Listed below are immunizations required to enroll in the program.

Medical Homes/Dispensaries:
All children and their families are encouraged to use the nearest dispensaries for preventive care. The following is the schedule for each dispensary for immunization and well child-care. All sites open from 7:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. throughout the week, Monday to Friday.

Physical Examinations and Screening:
Physical examinations are conducted annually at the beginning of the school year. The School Health Team from Public Health, which consists of a certified physician, nurses and technicians, usually conduct these examinations. These physical examinations are done out at the centers.

All children enrolled should complete physical examinations 45 to 90 days from the date of enrollment. Some of the tests administered during the physical examinations are hemoglobin check, height, weight, and dental screening. All high risk cases are usually referred to proper agencies as needed.

Dental Care:
Dental screening is done for all enrolled children during physical examinations. Children identified with severe cavity problems are referred to the designated dispensary for dental care. Dental Clinic Preventive Services is located at the Western District at the Mapusaga and Leone Dispensaries. They are open from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am. To 4:00 pm.

Students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program are treated at the ECE Mini Dental Clinic located at the Main Office at Mauga-o-Alii. Dental emergencies are referred to the LBJ Medical Center’s Dental Clinic.

Tooth Brushing is a must in the program. Tooth brushing is done daily in the classrooms. The program provides toothbrushes for all enrolled children. The ECE dental staff and our program’s health staff conduct inservices for teachers, parents, and staff on proper brushing and healthy dental care.

Child Health Nutrition:
The School Lunch Program of the Department of Education provides free breakfast and lunch for all students enrolled. These include those with special dietary needs as well as children with disabilities. Family and cultural settings during meal time is also recognized.

Health Card:
All teachers and parent volunteers who help with children’s meals are required to have a valid health card at all times. The health card should be posted on the parent’s corner. Volunteers with health cards usually help teachers serve breakfast and lunch.

Hand Washing:
Hand washing is the universal precaution for disease prevention. It is a common practice in all the centers before and after lunch and whenever needed. Children are taught the proper way of hand washing.

Children with identified disabilities are served by assigned Special Education Specialists out in the centers. Developmental screening forms are provided by the Special Education Program. The actual screenings are done by the ECE teaching staff.
